Something New

I decided to learn how to crochet.  Yeah you heard me.  I said I'm learning to crochet.  I think this is a great idea actually.
I was just reading a blog I follow about being well rounded.  Or rather well "T"d.  The Art of Manliness posted a blog about being a Mr. T.  That is shaping your skills like a T where the vertical part is the one thing you're really good at and the horizontal part is the skills you have but are not master of.

I'm proud of myself for taking up crochet BEFORE I learned the Mr. T concept from The Art of Manliness.  I have been validated a man by the Art of Manliness.  Or maybe just my concept has been validated, I doubt they were talking about learning how to crochet.  :)

I got a book for my birthday that really helped me get started.

Crochet for beginners, yarn, needles
A to Z of Crochet: The Ultimate Guide for the Beginner to Advanced Crocheter.

I coupled that with the following video and I was on my way!

Anyway, my first project is going to be a hot pad for the kitchen.  It's already all crazy and jagged; I may have to start over.  Hey!  It's hard to see where those chains end if you didn't think counting them was important!

  1. Ha! Nice dude. I want some mittens.

    1. Baby steps Nich, baby steps. First I have to make a blanket, then I'll try for a beanie, and THEN I'll make some mittens. But the first pair will probably go to my newest neice who will need them next winter. But don't worry, you're on the list! :)

  2. Now I'm really hoping you draw my name in the Secret Santa gift exchange next year...

    1. As long as you're good with getting either a blanket or a beanie!
